Amberley Court is a mixed livestock and arable unit of some 100 hectares situated in Herefordshire. The farm is owned by us, Phil and Alison Allman, and we live here with our two sons having moved from Greenyards Farm, Perthshire in April 2007.

At Greenyards, as well as breeding and rearing our Herefords, we grew a wide range of crops including:

  • Barley - for feed and malting
  • Oats - for feed and milling
  • Wheat - for feed, milling and distilling
  • Oil Seed Rape - for oil
  • Beans - as a protein source
We plan to continue with a small area of arable cropping at Amberley Court.

We come from a long line of cattle keepers. At least four generations of the Allman family have been breeding and rearing commercial cattle over the last one hundred years or more.

We are now into our 5th year of breeding Herefords. We chose Herefords not only because we like the them but also for the many characteristics they exhibit which makes them ideally suited for our situation.

Cattle fit well with our arable enterprises by:

  • utilising arable by-products
  • enhancing soil fertility (especially important for Cross Compliance)
  • increasing farm gross output
  • increasing efficiency of labour use.

As our foundation stock we chose animals from excellent blood lines, including:

  • Dendor
  • Leo's Pride
  • Shraden
  • Baldineie
  • Hilton
  • Knightwick
  • Graceland

We are active in the show circuit and welcome any interaction with other breeders and commercial cattle keepers.
